Project Lead, Educator, Consultant, Author (he/him)

Scot Cooper, RP

In practice since 1998, Scot has emerged as one of the key voices shaping the brief therapy landscape in Canada. Known for drawing together the brief therapies into a coherent process he locates as brief narrative therapy, Scot clearly blends important meta-theory with practical skill acquisition within a relational ethics framework. He is the author of the book Brief Narrative Practice in Single-Session Therapy which provides a clear, practice-based guide for time-constrained therapeutic conversations. He’s committed to assisting practitioners to work efficiently, meaningfully and justly.

Throughout his career, he has balanced his work at a provincial lead agency for children’s mental health with advancing single session therapy, providing consultation to growing organizations, and teaching nationally and internationally. From 2002 to 2012, Scot served as an external training and research faculty member at the Hincks-Dellcrest Institute (now SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute). Since 2006 he has overseen one of the longest running quick access (walk-in therapy) clinics in Ontario.

Alongside his therapeutic practice, Scot brings brief narrative practices to working with groups, collectives, and communities. In 2007 he initiated the Neighbouring Communities Project, a relationship initiative between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and was a co-coordinator of the subsequent Pen Pal Project for a decade.
