My Approach to Supervision

Supervision provides a reflecting surface for practitioners, just beginning or well into your career, to explore, grow, and stay connected to your humble competence. It’s a space to not be alone in the work and to give attention to the ways we collaborate and tend to power relations in therapeutic interaction. These are generative conversations.

You may be invited to name and reflect on the micro and macro skills you bring to your practice, and to consider whether the effects of those skills took the conversation where you intended. Together, we might explore the possible effects of language, broader discourse, and context in conversation.

Wherever we go in these conversations, you’ll leave with new ideas to try out, fresh perspectives to consider, and a renewed sense of connection in your work.

My Clinical Style

My clinical foundations are rooted in solution-focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, and other contemporary brief therapy approaches. I identify as a brief narrative therapist, with a practice shaped by a postmodern lens that emphasizes meaning-making, knowledge generation, non-pathologizing perspectives, and relational ethics.

I draw from a wide repertoire of practices and ideas, integrating creativity, expressive arts, and nature-based approaches. My work is contextually informed, attending to the social, political, and systemic influences that shape people’s lives—including experiences of injustice, oppression, as well as considerations of nutrition, sleep, and physical health.

Background and Training

I have provided supervision at a children’s mental health lead agency in Ontario for almost two decades overseeing the quick access (walk-in) clinic, supervising clinical staff and students. This has provided considerable experience working with children, youth, and adults facing various predicaments and experiences of distress. I also provide consultation to various agencies throughout Canada facilitating skill integration. I teach the micro-skills of ‘supervision for single session therapy’ and work with multiple institutions implementing SST within their service pathways.
